THE MUSIC CLUB OF BATON ROUGE
- Founded in 1909
- Certified as a 501(c)(3) public charity in 1983
- Currently has more than 170 members
- Our mission: “To encourage and support the study and performance of music in the greater Baton Rouge area”
- Active members (and guest performers) present recital programs programs 10 months of the year at First United Methodist Church in downtown Baton Rouge
- Associate members enjoy music, attend the monthly recital and study programs, and provide refreshments and assist with the receptions (which take place just prior to the recital meetings)
- To sponsor its scholarship awards for the coming school year, each March the Club presents its signature fundraising Scholarship Luncheon, an event that features live musical entertainment
- Annually funds $66,500 in scholarships for 13 deserving students in the LSU School of Music, and two organ scholarships (one for a pre-collegiate age student and one for a post high school individual in organ music studies)
- Has provided 374 scholarships during the past 74 years totaling more than $407,000
- Offers individuals and companies a philanthropic opportunity to support music education and careers
- Distributes a monthly newsletter to its membership, to an outreach list of music-related organizations in the greater Baton Rouge area, across the state, and nationally
